State sees big dip in influenza A(H1N1), dengue cases - Dr.H Sudarshan Ballal in THE HINDU.

Dengue is related to mosquito breeding in stagnant fresh water and high-density populations where infected mosquitoes can bite a large number of individuals in a cluster. It is possible that many migrant workers were displaced and severe crowding in the lower socio-economic area might have been less during the pandemic, said Dr.H Sudarshan Ballal.

With the imposition of a second lockdown in many parts of the country, implementation of COVID-appropriate behaviour and the arrival of vaccines, we have managed to bring down the number of new cases from almost 4 lakh per day to about 40,000 to 50,000 per day. I do believe these numbers will come down further if we control our behaviour, said Dr  H Sudarshan Ballal.

The expert committee had said three things: mass, indiscriminate and incomplete vaccination. I do agree that indiscriminate or incomplete vaccination is something that we need to avoid because once we start the dose of the vaccine, the primary dose I think it’s very essential that we give the booster dose to get the maximum benefit. Everything depends on two things, one is the availability of the vaccine and the second is the infrastructure to vaccinate a large number of people, said Dr.H Sudarshan Ballal.
