ECG

Overview

  • An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, non-invasive procedure performed for recording the heart rate and its rhythm. The procedure is performed for detecting known heart ailments or knowing how healthy the heart is before or after surgery.

Pre-Procedure

  • The patient should inform the doctor about the medicines they take as these might affect the test results.

  • Men will be asked to shave excessive chest hair.

During Procedure

  • The patient will be settled comfortably in an area where their privacy will be respected throughout the procedure. They will be given a hospital gown for changing into.

  • The patient will also be asked to remove their accessories, belt, purse, ornaments etc.

  • Conducting gel will be applied to the chest area by the technologist, who will then attach electrodes to the chest, legs and hands. The electrodes and the ECG machine will be connected with electrodes. For female patients, the procedure will be performed by a female technologist.

  • The procedure is painless and takes a maximum of 10-15 minutes.

  • The electrical activity of the heart will be measured by the machine, which will be followed by the printing of the results.

  • Electrodes will then be removed and the excess gel will be wiped off with tissues.

Post-Procedure

  • Post-procedure, the patient may resume their routine activities.

  • The report will be shared with the patient at reception.
